We’re queer to stay.

We honor intersectionality as a means for connection and authenticity

Everyone within Cincinnati’s vast Queer community has a multitude of overlapping identities. Like a nesting doll, there are both internal and external components that make up who we are. More visibly we may have things like race or gender presentation in common, but beneath the surface are vibrant cultures, unique experiences, and more that deserve to be shared and celebrated. Often times even with varying backgrounds we have more in common than we think.

At the core of these events is a passion for visibility. For spaces that encourage folx to present in ways that feel genuine to who they are. Whether that means a firm dedication to an aesthetic that may not be widely accepted, or means that it shifts day to day — there are no limits on self expression. As humans, no matter how independent we strive to be, we have a primal need for community in some capacity. My hope and goal is that these events (no matter how small) facilitate spaces and connections that allow for growth, honesty, and authentic experiences.

When fiscally sustainable, the bulk of these spaces will be free of charge to remove as many barriers as possible. Many of us are in less than ideal situations financially, have transportation expenses, and other needs that take precedent over recreational activities. To accommodate affordability there will always be options for folx who are for any reason unable to purchase a ticket or two to connect with me directly and get a code for free admission. That being said, because I am only one person and pay out of pocket for the expenses related to hosting, people who are able and willing to contribute are encouraged to purchase sponsored tickets for others.

This aspect is important to me on several fronts. At a base level, accessible venues are crucial to ensure that spaces are actually open to all. If for any reason an event is held within a space that is not wheelchair accessible, sensory friendly, or would otherwise present obstacles for anyone attending — that will be communicated in advance. My goal is to always be mindful of aspects that could be disruptive to someone’s experience, so that will take priority at all times. Some events may take place inside of a specific business that I am partnering with (such as a bookstore, let’s say) where the accessibility is not directly in my control but I fully intend to explore all available venues to prevent those barriers.

Within the current administration, hatred has not only been accepted but encouraged. we need safe bars, safe restaurants, safe parks, and to collectively patron the spaces that offer this support.

Before we take off to Outer Spice — let’s make a few things explicitly queer —
